Testing out NYX Cosmetics

20-Feb-2020

Can you believe that before this month I had never tried NYX cosmetics? When I mentioned it to my group of friends they were all shocked. I am a big make-up fan, and they didn't understand why I had not tried the famed brand. It's simply because I haven't got around to it yet, and as Valentines Day approached, and I was attempting some new makeup looks to mark the occasion, I thought I would dip into the brand, and see what made it so popular.

I purchased my NYX products from Notino, and as soon as my fancy parcel was delivered I dived in and had a play. February is the month of love, so I purposefully picked makeup items in pink and purple hues to create romantic makeup looks to get me through all my February events. The first favourite of mine that I enjoyed using was the NYX Mystic Petals Shadow Palette. This contained 10 different shadows in various pinks and purples. I must admit, I was super shocked at how well these blended on my eye lids as I used the highly pigmented pink shade described as shade 7. The colour was vibrant and fresh, and even when wearing large false lashes the pop of pink on my eyes was vibrant enough to shine through, perfectly lining my eyes. I think NYX cosmetics maybe my new best friend!

For my Valentines Inspired look I wanted to try something new and create a fresh pink lip. I often go for deep colours, or vibrant reds for day to day wear, so I felt a change to a more light, ethereal colour was due. I picked up three products to try by NYX. The first was NYX Slip Tease Full Lip Colour in shade Fatal Attraction. I also picked up a NYX Professional Lipstick in Shade Fire plus a NYX ‘This Is Everything Lip Balm’. All of which, while I had a play, were found to be super high quality and extremely pigmented which I loved. My favourites? The NYX Lipstick and NYX Lip Balm

For my makeup look, I used the NYX Lipstick in shade Fire straight from the bullet onto my lips. As the colour was vibrant, and I wanted more of a princess pink, I then used the NYX Lip Balm over the top. This muted the colour and added a luxurious shine to my lips. A perfect combination for all day wear!

Now to finish my romantic look, I wanted to do a heavy pink blush for a statement editorial finish. I used a shimmery blusher but I just wanted getting the desired highly pigmented look. As I looked down at my new NYX Mystic Petals Shadow Palette I had the idea to blend the same colour I used on my eyes over my cheeks for some all out glam. I used a blush brush and gently glided it over shade 7, and then gently glided it over the apples of my cheeks and worked up the side of my face. I did this a few time’s each side and then looked in my mirror. Wow, the shade added a stunning deep pink that was absolutely wearable but still dramatic, and because I’d used the same shade delicately it transformed how it looked on my face, around my eyes it was a bright heavy colour-pop of pink yet in my cheeks it was more subtle.

Every product I used from the NYX range surprised me with how good quality the items were, how well they preformed on my skin, and how you could multitask each item for different uses. With only a few products I managed to create a high impact Valentines Day inspired makeup look, perfect for date nights, red carpet events, photo shoots, or you could just rock this look at Asda, the choice is yours!

I’m now a NYX Cosmetics concert, and can’t wait to buy a few more pieces from Notino and create some more wearable yet dramatic looks.
