I recently went on a short trip to Praia Da Rocha, on the Algarve in Portugal. As we weren't going for very long me and my sister decided it was best, and cheaper, to take hand luggage only. I must admit that even though the amount we could take was sizeable, it still meant being very careful and selective with what clothing and accessories to take. Believe it or not, I do like to travel light anyway, so the plan? To take a small amount of interchangeable separates to mix and match. There's no use in taking whole outfits that can only be worn together. Take carefully chosen items that can all intermix making not only your suitcase light with only a few items, but it maximises your clothes to get as many wearable outfits as you can out of what you take. In total I only took two shirts, a jumper, a tailored jacket and two loose fitting tops. I also took one pair of shoes which were a pair of black Toms, a pair of black jeans and white cotton trousers. I also took many white t-shirts that I always wear undershirts anyway plus underwear and socks. I also didn't take many bags and accessories, I took one clutch bag and a mix of gold costume jewellery to wear. It really does sound more than it was!
Out of these items, I was able to mix and match to create chic travelling looks, cocktail looks for dinner, beach looks and a party outfit. If I got chilly I made sure that the jacket matched all outfits so I could wear it or drape it over my shoulders. I also picked a clutch bag that had black & white purposefully so that I could use it for day & night and with any item I took with me.
My only regret is not taking a plain black shirt, as this would have created even more looks. I also want to mention that the black, red and white floral top was a bargain find from Primark's sale rail, a steal at a £1. Yes that's right a pound, reduced from £12! Travelling is about being free and exploring so why take a mountain of clothes you won't wear not need? Shop smart, travel smart!....
PS: I have noted that I obviously have a signature pose!
